The Organizer

Robert Pollhammer

Until the end of 2002 in my regular job I worked for TUI AG which is one of the world’s leading companies in the tourism industry. I had to handle a variety of different projects, e.g. implementation of the new Masterbrand in the retail organisation, Sponsorship and Innovation Management.

After having been running marathons for a couple of years, I got into adventure racing. I enjoyed this so much that I decided to use the knowledge which I had acquired through my job and combine it with my love for adventure and sports. This way in 2003 my company, the GREAT OUTDOORS, was born.

2003 was also the first year I organised the Yukon Arctic Ultra (YAU) the worlds’s coldest and toughest ultra. In December 2005 I started Racelite.de an online-shop especially for trail runners, ultra runners and people venturing into the Arctic. Almost 20 years after the YAU I also created the Lapland Arctic Ultra, another winter event.

Most of the time I live in a small village in the German Alps, where I love going for hikes and runs with my Siberian Husky and enjoy being part of the local mountain rescue volunteer organisation. It’s safe to say that I love the mountains. So, it’s been very exciting when I was asked to present my ideas for an ultra race in Bhutan. That was back in 2020! Initial planning was going really well but then Covid-19 happened and the project came to a halt. We were only able to kick things off again earlier this year. Good things take time!

I am super excited about the Bhutan Ultra and to share with my passion for mountain trails with ultra runners from all over the world.

I could not have planned the Bhutan Ultra without Discover TBT, the Bhutanese agency in charge of anything to do with the Trans Bhutan Trail. I will soon introduce them to you in more detail.

I hope you will all enjoy being part of our adventure – both from the comfort of your home and eventually as a participant.

See you in Bhutan.
