You don’t have to run an ultra to experience the magic of Bhutan! For those who dream of exploring the Land of the Thunder Dragon but aren’t quite ready to tackle 150 or 200 km on the Trans Bhutan Trail, we have another exciting adventure to offer.
Following our first trip in 2026, we’re delighted to announce that our journey to the Royal Highland Festival will return in 2027! The itinerary and pricing are now available.
A Journey into the Heart of Bhutan
Organised in cooperation with our friends at the Trans Bhutan Trail, this adventure offers a wonderful opportunity to experience Bhutan’s extraordinary combination of natural beauty, living traditions and rich cultural heritage.
The journey takes guests through some of Bhutan’s most spectacular landscapes, with visits to iconic landmarks such as Tiger’s Nest Monastery, Buddha Dordenma, Dochula Pass, Punakha Dzong and Trongsa Dzong.
Along the way, there will be opportunities to explore on foot, discover traditional villages and experience a way of life that has remained closely connected to the mountains for generations.
The Royal Highland Festival – A Celebration Like No Other
The highlight of the journey is the Royal Highland Festival in Laya, one of Bhutan’s highest and most remote settlements, situated at nearly 4,000 metres above sea level.
Established in 2016, the festival celebrates the traditions, culture and livelihoods of Bhutan’s highland communities. Visitors can experience traditional music and dances, meet local yak herders, discover regional crafts and enjoy the extraordinary atmosphere of this unique mountain gathering.
And for those who would like to combine their cultural adventure with a sporting challenge, there’s an exciting option: the 25 km Laya Run, held on the opening day of the festival. Participation is entirely optional, but what an incredible place to experience a mountain trail race!
